Luverne defeats Fairmont 54-33 in Section 3AA girls basketball semifinal

The Luverne Cardinals will play New London-Spicer in the Section 3AA finals at SMSU on March 10. The game starts at 5 p.m.

MARSHALL – Christina Wagner scored 17 points for the Luverne Cardinals in their Section 3AA semifinal 54-33 victory over Fairmont on Thursday. Wagner had three treys and 10 points in the first half.

Minnesota West plays rival Rochester in the championship game on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Kira John scored nine points for Luverne. Elizabeth Wagner had eight points. Lauren Hansen, Emma Beyer, and Tori Serie all scored treys for LHS.

Luverne proved to be tough to score against, as Fairmont was held to 15 points in the second half. Grace Pendergast was the leading scorer for Fairmont with eight points. Brylee Miller scored seven points. Nevaeh Rahm scored six.

The Luverne Cardinals will play New London-Spicer in the Section 3AA finals. New London-Spicer Wildcats were the one seed in the north bracket, and in their semifinal game defeated Montevideo 43-37.

The Section 3AA championship game is set for March 10 at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. The game starts at 5 p.m.
