LUVERNE -- Kamryn Van Batavia scored five goals and teammates Payton Behr and Reghan Bork had one each as the Luverne High School girls hockey team bested Mankato East 7-2 in the finals of the Section 3A tournament Friday night.

The game matched the tournaments No. 1 (Luverne) and No. 2 seeds.

The win pushed the Cardinals into the Class A state tournament, which will be at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Luverne will play its first game on Friday against an opponent yet to be named.

"We had a solid three periods," LHS head coach Tony Sandbulte said about his team's effort on Friday. "Mankato East is a solid team. It was back and forth, it was fast, and we just stayed with it."
