Minnesota River sweeps WHS in hockey; Luverne girls win in OT

Minnesota River won a pair of high school hockey victories over Worthington Saturday, capturing the girls contest 3-0 and the boys game 4-3.

In another boys game, Morris/Benson topped Windom Area 5-2.

In girls’ play, Windom Area beat Morris/Benson 5-2 and Luverne defeated Mankato East 2-1 in overtime.

Boys

Minnesota River 4, Worthington 3

LE SUEUR -- Blake Ahrenstorff, Carlos Garcia and Bryce Olsen scored goals for the Trojans. Colby Nickel, Kipton Jenson and Alec Langerud were credited with assists.

Minnesota River put 36 shots on goal to Worthington’s 26.

Morris/Benson 5, Windom Area 2

BENSON -- Host Morris/Benson outscored Windom Area 3-0 in the first period en route to the victory.

Mikal Anderson and Austin Fredin scored Windom Area’s goals.

Morris/Benson had 35 shots to the Eagles’ 25.

Girls

Minnesota River 3, Worthington 0

The shots on goal were close. Worthington attempted 31 and Minnesota River attempted 39.

But the Trojans were unable to tickle the net.

Windom Area 5, Morris/Benson 2

Trailing 2-1 at the end of the second period, Windom Area outscored Morris/Benson 4-0 in the third.

Abby Ignaszewski had two goals for the winners. Teammates Elly Bang, Miranda Cory and Marissa Becker also scored.

Windom Area out-shot MB 36-16.

Luverne 2, Mankato East 1

Claire Baustian found the net in overtime, breaking a 1-1 tie and giving Luverne a 2-1 victory.

Rylee Gee scored the Cardinals’ other goal. Kamryn Van Batavia had two assists.

Luverne out-shot East 41-16.
