WORTHINGTON -- It's official, Windom's Michael Johnson will be in town this fall to thrill area fans with his precision shooting and ball-handling skills, as the Eagle senior signed a national letter of intent Tuesday to play basketball at Minnesota West.
Throughout his career, Johnson has demonstrated the ability to hit perimeter shots from every angle and in clutch situations. A five-year letter winner at Windom High School, Johnson averaged 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals per game for the Eagles in his senior season and finished his high school career as Windom's all time leading scorer with 1,633 points.
"I think Minnesota West will be a good fit for Michael," Windom head coach Corey Christopher said. "I think it's the right kind of basketball for him and the draw of playing right away is certainly a plus. It will be fun to watch him play and continue his development."
Johnson is a three time All-Southwest Conference basketball selection and three time All Area basketball selection. Johnson is also a three-time section qualifier in track & field.
"We are very pleased to have Michael become a student-athlete at Minnesota West," MW head coach Justin Heckenlaible said. "Michael is a quality young man and a very good student and will fit in very well with our team. He is a player who can really score and has the opportunity to help us on the perimeter immediately."
