Monday prep roundup: E/SWC softball walk-off Murray County Central

HL-O/F will play Cleveland on Tuesday. Both baseball teams are in pursuit of their first victory on the season. Tyler Jaycox, Lilly Mahlberg and Mia Nixon recognized as All-Conference golfers for WHS.

Softball

E/SWC 3, MCC 2

EDGERTON — A seventh-inning run by Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian pushed the Flying Dutchmen to a 3-2 conference victory over Murray County Central on Thursday.

Scoring runs for the Flying Dutchmen were Maddie Feikema and Ana Veldkamp. Veldkamp scored twice.

MCC scored both of their runs via home runs. Atalie Rosenbrook and Abigale Loosbrock had solo shots.

Paris Van Dyke pitched seven innings for E/SWC. She struck out 13 and walked one. She allowed seven hits and two earned runs.

Thea Schneider pitched for the Rebels. She excelled going six and two-thirds innings and allowed six hits and two walks to six strikeouts. None of the runs were earned.

Brenalyn Smit had two hits and a run batted in for the Flying Dutchmen. Kathryn Prins and Mateya Gilbertson had singles.

Schneider, Rosenbrook, Mary McNab, Morgan Winter and Karissa Hurd had singles.

E/SWC maintains its undefeated season. The Rebels season record is 7-4.

Luverne 16, Adrian/Ellsworth 1

LUVERNE — Luverne scored 11 runs in the second inning to post a victory over Adrian/Ellsworth.

Ella Reisdorfer, Allie Kracht, Tori Serie and Carly Olson hit doubles for the Cardinals. Elizabeth Smidt went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Olson had three RBIs and Reisdorfer had two RBIs.

Payton Behr and Kaysie Lenz scored three runs apiece and Regan Mahlhaff scored two runs.

Gracie Nath pitched four innings for LHS. She allowed two hits and two walks and one earned run. She struck out seven.

Leah Kruse and Shandra Cuperus had hits for the Dragons. Cuperus scored the lone run in the fourth inning.

Boys Golf

Big South Conference 

MORTON — Tyler Jaycox earned All-Conference honors with his 10th place finish at the Big South Conference meet at Dacotah Ridge golf course on Monday.

Jaycox shot an 80 at the final meet and finished the cumulative scoring in 18th for the final All-Conference spot.

The Luverne Cardinals were the winners of the meet with a score of 303. Worthington finished 12th and scored 357.

Kaiden Brovold was the lone golfer to score under par. The St. Peter junior scored 71. Brady Bork from Luverne finished second with 73 and teammate Henry Hartquist tied for third with 74.

Andrew Mulder finished second on the Trojans team and shot an 86. Logan Powers was third with a score of 92. Spenser Braaksma shot a 99 and Wesley Widboom scored 105.

Girls Golf

Big South Conference 

MORTON — Lilly Mahlberg and Mia Nixon were the All-Conference selections for the fifth place Worthington girls golf team.

The Trojans scored 379 and trailed St. Peter, Fairmont, Blue Earth Area and Redwood Valley.

Redwood Valley won the meet with a score of 339.

Mahlberg tied for seventh at the Dacotah Ridge meet with a score of 89. Mia Nixon tied with two BEA golfers for 12th with 91 strokes.

Tarren Spartz scored 98 and finished 19th. Claire Mahlberg’s score of 101 finished 24th. Madison Beckmann scored 104 and placed 30th and Ellie Weg scored 118 and placed 47th.

Baseball

RRC/W-WG 11, HL-O/F 1

MILROY — Two dropped fly outs by Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in the fifth inning were enough to rally Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove to hang six runs and win a late season conference game.

The Falcons won 11-1 in six innings.

Tim Salentiny pitched four and one-third innings for the Coyotes. He faced the first five batters without recording a base runner. But a two-out walk in the bottom of the second prompted a three-run Falcons rally.

HL-O/F scored its lone run in the top of the first inning. Brenton Erdmann reached base after being hit by a pitch. He stole second and advanced to third on a Dillon Smith double. Erdmann scored off a Sam Goedtke sacrifice fly.

Salentiny had a single for the Coyotes.

Ashton Juhnke pitched two innings for the Falcons; he struck out two and walked one. Quintyn Vold pitched three innings in relief. He struck out seven of nine batters.

Abe Stavnes allowed a leadoff single before recording three outs in his inning of relief.

Ashton Holmen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jake Erickson had a hit and two RBIs.

HL-O/F plays Cleveland and Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Tuesday. Cleveland and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda are both seeking their first victory of the season.
