WABASSO -- Montana Beckmann and Briana Schmitz each drove in two runs to lead Murray County Central to a victory over Wabasso in Monday softball.


Beckmann was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Schmitz was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Laney Brown had two hits and Shelby Christensen had two hits and scored a run.

Amanda Muecke threw all seven innings for MCC. She allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out seven.

The Rebels (9-5) host Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tuesday.

WABASSO -- Sierra Van Dyke pitched and won both games of a doubleheader as Edgerton/Southwest Christian beat Wabasso twice, 6-2 and 8-1.

Van Dyke went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run in the first game while pitching a complete game with 14 strikeouts. In the second game she also pitched a complete game, striking out nine.

Hannah Nerem was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the opener while Liz Prins and Jazzy Prins were both 2-for-4.

In the second game, Jazzy was 2-for-4 with a home run and Liz was 2-for-4 with a double. Addison Fleischman was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and McKenzie Snyder was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jenna Frank homered for Wabasso.

E/SWC is 12-4 on the season.

Luverne 21-6, Adrian 8-1

ELLSWORTH -- Luverne went big in the first game of a doubleheader, collecting 23 hits in a 2-18 win over Adrian. Then in the nightcap, the Cardinals completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory.

Billi Connell was 3-for-6 with three RBIs in the opener. Rylee Olson was 4-for-6 with three RBIs, Roz Oye was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Halle Hough was 3-for-6 with one RBI.

For Adrian, Shawna Rogers was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and Kristina Cauwels was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Hough was the winning pitcher. Avery Balster took the loss.

In the second game, Connell, Hough and Shelby Kracht all had two hits, and Courtney Nath had three. Cauwels went 2-for-3 for Adrian.

Oye pitched six innings and got the win. Balster was the losing pitcher.

Luverne is 14-3 on the year.

LUVERNE -- Derek Lundgren drove in three runs as Luverne defeated Adrian in a non-conference game.

Jake Haugen added three hits for the Cardinals. He also drove in two. Gaige Nath was 4-for-4 and scored twice for Luverne, which jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the second inning.

Ben Serie earned the victory for the Cardinals. He threw five innings and allowed two runs, two hits and struck out eight. Jade Smith threw the final two innings and struck out three.

Brent Hokeness had a hit and drove in a run for Adrian, while Ian Stamer had the other Dragon hit.

Luverne at Adrian

ADRIAN -- A 41 was the magic number in the Adrian and Luverne golf meet.

Brock Henning had a medalist medalist-round of 41 to lead Adrian past Luverne in the boys competition. While Luverne’s Anna Huisman shot a 41 as the Cardinals got past the Dragons in the girls meet.

For the boys, AHS finished with a 176, while LHS had a 182. The Luverne girls fired a 193, while Adrian carded a 199.

After Henning, Easton Braun had a 43, Landon Runia shot a 44 and Logan Nogosek fired a 48.

Luverne was led by Carter Stemper’s 43. Cooper Arends and Colton Schutz each had a 46, while Jack Golla finished with a 47.

Behind Huisman, Morgan Gonnerman scored a 48, McCall Stegenga fired a 51 and Paige Sandbulte finished with a 53.

The Adrian girls were led by Annika Elias and Gracia Elias, who each had a 48. Josi Altman carded a 51 and Madelyn Odell fired a 52.   


JCC vs Windom Area, New Ulm

JACKSON -- Jackson County Central played two different teams in Monday’s golf match.

The boys faced off against New Ulm, and both varsity teams squared off against Windom Area.

JCC’s boys finished with a 168 on the day. The Windom Area boys carded a 207, while the New Ulm boys had a 170. The JCC girls scored a 212, while the Eagles finished with a 224.

The JCC boys were led by Scott Flatebo’s 38. Jack Brinkman had a 41, while Tanner Haar scored a 44 and Alec Kocak carded a 45.

Jackson Roll led Windom Area with a 49, while Parker Alvstad had a 51, Zach Raabbe finished with a 53 and Eli Lund scored a 54.

Glavin Schugel scored a 35 for New Ulm, and Aiden Guggisberg finished with a 38.

Grace Benson shot a 50 to lead the JCC girls, while Ava Brinkman fired a 51 for the Huskies. Megan Gallagher had a 55, while Regan Farmer and Sydney Sadusky each scored a 56.

Windom Area was led by Paige Pigman’s 50. Allie Ward scored a 56 and Lily Mellstrom had a 57.


Boys tennis

Worthington 7, MACCRAY 0

CLARA CITY -- It all went Worthington’s way in a 7-0 win over host MACCRAY.

The Trojans hardly dropped a game in singles. Blaine Doeden beat Riley Essendrup 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1. Sullivan Merrigan beat Gabe Sparks 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Cade Lindner won 6-0, 6-0 over Josiah Seehusen at No. 3. And Mike Martinez won by default over Coty Carlson at No. 4.

At No. 1 doubles, the Trojans’ Ryan Newman and Ben Lopez topped Anton Thissen and Carter Tomes 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. At No. 2, Bobby Souwankham and Colby Hastings won 6-0, 6-1 over Brogan Harguth and Andrew Janssen. And at No. 3, Michael Schneider and Alec Langerud was victorious over Daniel Seehusen and Brent Rassat 6-0, 6-0.


Luverne 6, Montevideo 1

LUVERNE -- Winning all but one of the singles matches, Luverne rolled past Montevideo.

Matthew Jelken beat Monty’s Owen Strunc 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Graham Cunningham topped Lucas Hoium 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 at No. 2. Pierce Cunningham won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

The Cardinals were strong in doubles. Cole Stoltenberg and Matt Sehr won 6-1, 6-2 against Montevideo’s Tyler Johnson and Cayden Olson. Jordan Winter and Carson Ehde prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. And at No. 3, Blake Frahm and Griffen Jarchow won 6-0, 6-1.

Luverne’s only loss was at No. 3 singles as John Vanravenswaay defeated Colin Schoeneman 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.
