YANKTON, S.D. -- The Minnesota West women's and men's basketball teams lost games against Mount Marty JV on Friday. A wrapup:
Mount Marty 57, Lady Jays 43
The Lady Jays fell behind early and battled back, but not far enough to win.
Mallory Thorson scored 13 points with five rebounds, four steals and two assists for West. Justine Bernazeau did well at point guard while also playing outstanding defense. Hunter Garcia added nine points.
"It was good to see that we fought back in the second half. We are improving every game," said head coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka.

Size is likely to give the Minnesota West men's basketball team some trouble from time to time, and it was size -- and a hot-shooting Josh Arit -- who troubled the Bluejays Friday night.
Host Mount Marty JV defeated the Jays 87-70, taking a 42-27 lead into intermission and massaging it. Arit finished with 29 points.
Actually, said West head coach Taylor Lupton, the Bluejays played the taller Lancers pretty well for the most part. "We rebounded the ball hard today. An improvement on that from the last game," he said.
Minnesota West, now 1-1, got 14 points Friday from Isaac Ihnen, 12 from C.J. Ligon and 11 from Jacquez Stoudemire.
