WORTHINGTON -- On Friday, Worthington Trojans golfer Andrew Mulder became medalist at a meet for the first time. Judging by the way he's been coming on in this, his freshman year, there are many more of them to come.

Mulder shot a 40 at the Worthington course in a dual meet against Jackson County Central. He made several clutch putts, said his coach, Paul Barduson.

"He actually had a couple of moments of bad luck when he was right behind a tree and had to punch out," Barduson said.

After the meet, said Barduson, Mulder "was really excited. He's been working hard and he started the year at the mid-to upper 40s. And it's really nice seeing his hard work pay off."

JCC won the team competition 170 to 176. Alec Kocak and Sam Brinkman led the Huskies with rounds of 41 and 42 strokes, respectively.

Adding to Mulder's score for Worthington was Logan Powers with 41, Tyler Jaycox 42 and Cody Vorasane 53.

Another freshman, Madison Beckmann, was medalist for the WHS girls in their showdown with JCC. Beckmann shot a 47 while teammates Kendall Nixon (51), Ellie Weg (51), Lillie Mahlberg (55) and Tarren Spartz (55) came in behind. Both teams totaled 204 strokes, but Worthington's second 55 was better than JCC's next score.

Regan Farmer (49) and Ava Brinkman (50) led JCC.
