Pipestone, Luverne victorious

SPRINGFIELD -- Both the Luverne and the Pipestone American Legion baseball teams stayed alive in the 2nd District tournament Monday night.

Luverne defeated Wells, 8-7 in a game which saw six errors between the two teams.

Pipestone, meanwhile, had a stellar pitching performance from Greg Quist.

The right-hander allowed one run, but did not give up a hit to Wabasso as Pipestone advanced with a 12-1 victory in six innings.

For Pipestone, Jordan Karels had three hits and drove in four runs.

Sam Schneider continued his hot streak in the game and drove in a pair of runs, while Sam Bauer had two RBIs on the night.

Pipestone will play again Saturday at 1 p.m. at Springfield.

Luverne 8, Wells 7

Adam Ossefoort had a solid pitching performance and the Luverne offense came through for just enough runs in a narrow victory.

Ossefoort allowed three earned runs while walking three and striking out four in six and one-thirds innings.

Nick Meyer came on in relief and recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

Luverne had just five hits in the game, but made them count.

Brent Dinger had a hit and scored twice, while Derek Van Santen had a hit and drove in a run.

Ossefoort helped his own cause with a hit and two RBIs, while Eric Kor had a hit and scored a pair of runs.

Zack Clark also had a hit, while Meyer scored a pair of runs.

Luverne, who lost to Pipestone Saturday, will face Lake Crystal Friday at 5 p.m. in Springfield.

The winner of the game will face Wabasso at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The final games of the bracket will be played Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
