HUTCHINSON - Worthington was right there Tuesday as it tried to improve to .500 on the young season.
The second half, however, was not kind to the Trojans. Hutchinson out-scored them 38-25 during the final 18 minutes of the game. That resulted in a 73-58 nonconference loss for Worthington.
“We battled in the first half,” WHS head coach Clint Meyer said. “Tucker Sorenson came in and did a nice job. He had a nice half. We were right there at the half.”
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead but the Trojans stayed in it. By the time the first half buzzer rang out, Worthington was within two, down 35-33.
Hutchinson cranked up the intensity in the second half. It extended its lead before the Trojans began to chip away. They closed the deficit to seven points and forced the Tigers into a timeout.
“They called a timeout, got things set up and they came back down and hit a 3,” Meyer said. “They did all the little things right in the second half.”
OD Othow led Worthington with 13 points, an effort that included three 3-pointers. Sorenson also hit two shots from downtown and ended the night with 12. Zach Boever had 10 points and eight boards with Logan Huisman also pulling down eight caroms.
The Trojans (3-5 overall, 2-2 Big South Conference) are off until Dec. 29 when they open the Daily Globe Trojans Holiday Classic at 7:30 p.m. against Mankato West.
