PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Cook, Strom run well at Redbird Invitational

MONTGOMERY -- Jackson County Central senior cross country runners Justin Cook and Marc Strom each finished among the individual medalists (top 25) at the huge Redbird Invitational Thursday afternoon at the Montgomery Country Club.

Competing in a field of 226 finishing runners in the 5,000-meter boys' race, Cook entered the chute in fifth-place, clocking a time of 16 minutes, 44 seconds.

Strom ran the course in 17:26 and finished 17th.

In the team scoring, the Huskies were 13th among 32 complete squads with 389 points.

Ben Kocak (78th, 18:54), Jordan Snyder (143, 20:07) and Jordan Ringgenberg (146, 20:11) completed the scoring for JCC.

Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin -- paced by the Blomgren twins and Nathan Dukes -- finished 22nd with 560 points.

Kyle Blomgren was the first Wolverine finisher, placing 64th with a time of 18:42, while Adam Blomgren (72, 18:51) and Dukes (84, 19:03) also ran well for ML/B-O.

Cory Fast (156, 20:25) and Hunter Quiring (184, 21:09) were the fourth and fifth finishers, respectively, for the Wolverines.

ML/B-O's Stacey Harder ran close to the front pack in the 4,000-meter girls' race, finishing 33rd with a time of 16:51.

Wolverine teammates Brooke Fast (76, 17:41), Jessica Sawatzky (123, 18:55), Ashton Nelson (145, 19:30) and Jill Langland (163, 19:57) completed the scoring, as the team finished 21st, among 29 complete squads, with 538 points.

Finishing 15 points and one place ahead of ML/B-O was JCC.

The Huskies were 20th with a score of 523, as the trio of Leslie Handzus (50, 17:08), Megan Johnson (78, 17:45) and Angela Handzus (99, 18:13) each finished among the top 100.

Hailey Timko (137, 19:14) and Kinbrae Bezdicek (159, 19:48) completed the scoring for JCC.

There were 205 finishers in the girls' race.
