NICOLLET-The Heron Lake-Okabena Wildcats snapped a 20-game football losing streak on the road Friday. The last time HL-O won was the final game of the regular season in 2012.
The Wildcats defense was a huge contributor to their success, holding Nicollet to minus-29 rushing yards. The duo of Marcelo and Angel Esqueda accounted for six tackles apiece. Travis Behrends also pitched in six tackles and three sacks. Senior Bady Haberman picked off three interceptions to help the Wildcat cause.
Nicollet’s only touchdown came early in the first quarter. HL-O quarterback Ethan Becker missed his receiver and the football fell into the hands of Gavin Nourie. The Nicollet senior proceeded to return the ball 20 yards for the hosts’ sole touchdown of the night.
The score didn’t stay in favor of the home team for long. In the middle of the second quarter Haberman caught a long 66-yard pass from quarterback Ethan Becker for the first Wildcat touchdown. Becker was 3-11 on the night and had one touchdown. The deciding touchdown came late in the fourth quarter when Travis Behrends grabbed a blocked punt and returned it for a TD.

MCW 14, Windom Area 7
WINDOM - The Martin County West Mavericks slipped ahead of the Windom Eagles in the fourth quarter for the Friday night win.
The Mavericks started the scoring in the second quarter with an eight-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ethan Hurn, putting them up 6-0 at the half.
Jonas Hauge of the Eagles had a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, putting his team on the board.
In the fourth quarter, Dylan Jones had a 67-yard run which put MCW in position to score on another eight-yard run by Hurn.
For the Eagles, Hauge had 18 rushes for 71 yards and his team’s single touchdown. Senior running back Devin Nielsen carried the ball 10 times for 67 yards. Quarterback Sam Huska went 4-for-17 for 22 yards and wide receiver Austin Fast had three receptions for 21 yards.
Hurn passed for 83 yards and rushed 81 with both of his team’s touchdowns. Jones had 138 rushing yards.

HILLS - The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots were up two points at the half, but Mountain Lake Area scored twice in the fourth quarter sealing the victory.
For the Wolverine offense, quarterback Levi Stoesz threw 11-for-20 and 356 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 175 yards with a touchdown in 18 carries.
Senior running back Chris Boyd rushed 12 times for 82 yards and scored twice. Additionally, he had six catches for 84 yards including a 38-yard touchdown reception. Defensively, MLA had two interceptions, one in the first by Tiger Sengmany and the other in the third by Ian Glassic.
The Patriots had to fill the running back position as starter Isaiah Vis is injured. Senior Stuart Plimpton stepped in and rushed 20 times for 93 yards.
Quarterback Zach Scholten had 18 complete passes out of 29 attempts for 208 yards and three touchdown passes. The leading receivers were Cooper Vaughn, who had 10 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown, and Trenton Bass who had 83 receiving yards on five catches.
The leading tacklers for H-BC were Logan Leuthold with 12 and Plimpton with 13.

JACKSON - For the second straight week, Jackson County Central started fast. For the second straight week, it never looked back.
The Huskies led Blue Earth Area 21-0 by the end of the first quarter. That eventually turned into a 55-25 blowout win, evening JCC’s record at 2-0.
On the game’s opening drive, Keegan Moore punched it in on a 5-yard run to put the home team up 7-0. After a bad snap on the Bucs’ ensuing punt, Avery Henderson scored on a 4-yard dash and the rout was on. Easton Bahr hit Ryan Salzwedel on a 35-yard touchdown pass with 4:05 remaining in the opening frame to set the score at 21-0 after one.
BEA got back into it with three straight touchdowns, the last of which came on a 31-yard fumble return for six. That cut the lead to 21-18, but the Huskies recovered before halftime.
Matt Strom made a big play on defense with a strip sack and Chris Gumto was able to pounce on the loose ball. Moore ran it in just a couple plays later to get JCC back on track. A 44-yard touchdown scamper by Bahr gave the Huskies a 35-18 lead at the break.
Bahr added another score in the third before Henderson and Dalton Wagner tallied touchdown runs in the fourth to put the game away for JCC.
Moore finished with 180 yards and two scores on 16 carries to lead the Huskies. Henderson added 61 yards and two scores while Wagner and Bahr ran for 57 and 51, respectively. Bahr also completed 7-of-11 passes for 71 yards. All told, they rushed for 391 yards. Salzwedel caught three passes for 56 yards.
The Huskies (2-2 overall, 2-1 district) travels to Windom Area next week to take on the Eagles. They fell to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the district with a 14-7 loss to Martin County West Friday.

ST. JAMES - Pipestone Area was ranked No. 2 in Class AA heading into Friday’s games. It won’t be falling anytime soon.
The Arrows dismantled St. James Area on the road 54-0.
The Arrows scored three times in the first quarter and were up 34-0 by halftime. The scoring started in the first on a 12-yard run by McKinley Bush. Daniel Larson added a 5-yard touchdown gallop before Austin Moeller got into the act with a 5-yarder of his own.
Early in the second quarter, Justin Rops hauled in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Brayden Baartman. Bush’s second touchdown of the night, this one from 10 yards out, set the score at 34-0 when the teams hit the locker rooms.
Moeller scored twice in the third quarter on touchdown scampers of 5 and 1 yards. Matt Enger recovered a fumble and returned it 31 yards for his first of two scores in the fourth quarter. The second was a 34-yard run.
Next up for a Pipestone Area (4-0 overall, 3-0 district) is its annual showdown with Luverne for the Battle Axe.

TRACY - Tracy-Milroy-Balaton continued its destruction of District Southwest-West opponents Friday with a 52-0 victory over Lac qui Parle Valley.
Josh Kirk returned the opening kick 86 yards to paydirt and the rout was on. Brett Swenhaugen hit Spencer Smith on a 25-yard touchdown pass with 6:58 to in the first and late in the opening frame, Swenhaugen scrambled 74 yards for another long Panthers’ touchdown.
Hayden Sanders ran it in just four seconds into the second quarter to extend the lead to 28-0. Long scores of 72 and 49 yards by Smith and Sanders set the score at 42-0 at halftime.
Riley Kirk added a 40-yard touchdown run with 7:25 in the third quarter before a field goal in the fourth quarter brought the game to its final.
The Panthers out-gained their opponents 443-112 on the ground and 521-220 in all. Riley Kirk ran for 190 yards and a score with Swenhaugen gaining 98 yards on six carries. Sanders added 58 and Smith dashed to 72. Swenhaugen went 5-for-6 passing for 78 yards. Three of those went to Smith, who picked up 46 receiving yards.

Luverne 17, Redwood 13
REDWOOD FALLS - Luverne bounced back in a big way Friday.
After taking their first loss in a 57-7 drubbing at the hands of Jackson County Central one week earlier, the Cardinals put together perhaps their biggest win to-date. They defeated the previously unbeaten Redwood Valley Cardinals 17-13 on the road.
Luverne was up 10-7 at halftime and was able to hold on through the second half to get back on track.
The Cardinals (3-1 overall, 2-1 district) will host arch-rival Pipestone Area next week in the annual Battle Axe Game. It will mark the second straight week they’ve taken on an undefeated opponent.

ADRIAN-Led by the offensive explosion of Logan Rogers the Adrian Dragons dominated the visiting MCC Rebels.
Rogers totaled 240 of Adrian’s 398 offensive yards. On the ground the senior rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown and also passed for 110 yards and one touchdown. Michael Preuss was also big for the Dragons rushing for 53 yards and three touchdowns.
The Rebels were the first to strike in the contest. Quarterback Mason Whitehead punched in a touchdown from one yard out in the middle of the first quarter. From then on the Dragon defense blanked MCC. Logan Nelson and Skylar Heronimus each racked up 10 tackles for the home team.

E-E 52, Fulda 16
EDGERTON-It was a lopsided game right from the start in Edgerton Friday night. The E-E Dutchman dominated both sides of the ball for the whole game.
Landon Buckridge had a stellar night for the Dutchman going 13-14 through the air totaling 284 yards and four touchdowns. On the receiving end of three of those four touchdowns were wide receivers Mason Sluis and Tervor Van Dyke. The duo combined for 262 receiving yards. On the ground Tannan Groen bulldozed his way to 56 yards.
Defensively Blake Van Dyke led the Dutchmen with 13 tackles and two sacks. Jake Huisken, who also tallied up two sacks, picked up five tackles.
Fulda struggled all night on the offensive side of things, one bright spot coming from running back Brandon Everett. The junior totaled 55 yards off of 14 carries.
The Dutchen advances to 4-0 on the season as Fulda falls to 1-3.

West Lyon 17, S-O 13
LARCHWOOD, Iowa - In their first district contest of the year, Sibley-Ocheyedan was looking to pull off an upset.
Playing against perennial contender West Lyon on the road, the Generals had a head of steam built up going into the contest. In their first two games of the season, they had outscored opponents by a combined score of 92-7.
Unfortunately for Sibley-Ocheyedan, it couldn’t quite get over the hump that was the Wildcats. In a game that wasn’t decided until the final moments, the Generals fell 17-13.
S-O (2-1 overall, 0-1 district) will return home next week for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Western Christian.
Also in Iowa, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock suffered its second loss of the season when it ran into a powerful Spirit Lake team. The Indians finished the night with a 42-8 victory.
The Lions (1-2 overall, 0-1 district) will try to snap a two-game skid at home next week against MOC-Floyd Valley.
Sheldon is still in search of its first win of the season after it lost its district opener Friday at Okoboji, 30-14.

LAKE PARK - The Harris-Lake Park Wolves defeated the Remsen Union with total offensive domination Friday night in Iowa.
The Wolves were led by senior quarterback Dahlton Burdorf, senior running back Thor Larson, junior Jordan Kyle, and sophomore Trevor Gunderson.
The offense scored on a few high-yard gains. Larson ran 56 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Late in the half, Kyle caught a 26-yard pass from Burdorf putting the score to 42-0 at halftime. After a scoreless third quarter, Keegan Carpenter had a 47-yard touchdown run to end the game.
Burdorf threw six complete passes out of 13 attempts for 85 yards. He had three touchdown passes, one to Gunderson and two to Kyle. Sophomore Bryce Perkins also got some playing time and his single throw of the game was a 15-yard touchdown pass to Larson.
Larson rushed 120 yards on 10 carries for two touchdowns and he had two catches for 23 yards and another touchdown. Gunderson carried the ball 12 times for 72 yards with one score and caught two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown.
Leading receiver Kyle had two receptions for 36 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Carpenter had eight tackles and an interception, and Burdorf also had eight tackles and one fumble recovery.
H-LP had 31 rushes for 262 yards and four touchdowns. It also went 7-for-14 passing for 100 yards with four touchdowns.
