BLAINE - Makayla Sterrett scored a goal for the Luverne girls hockey team, but Fort Frances (Ontario) scored three times in the third period to take the victory.
Jenna Clendenning scored a goal in the first for Fort Frances before Sterrett scored the equalizer in the second. The goal, which came 19 seconds into the period, was assisted by Carly Serie.
Fort Frances then scored four unanswered, with Siobhan Mackintosh scoring in the second. Annalise Hayes, Taylor Croswell and Abby Plourde each scored in the third period, with Croswell’s goal coming shorthanded and Plourde scoring on a power play.
The Cardinals had 23 shots on goal, while Fort Frances had 29.
