Prep golf: Southwest Conference announces All-Conference selections

MARSHALL -- The Southwest Conference announced the girls and boys golf All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention honorees Thursday. Marshall finished with a league-high 10 postseason award winners.

MARSHALL - The Southwest Conference announced the girls and boys golf All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention honorees Thursday. Marshall finished with a league-high 10 postseason award winners.
The top six Tiger boys received mention on the All-Conference list. Brett Haukom, Matt Bennett and Jacob Bennett were all named to the boys All-Conference team. Joe Wyffels, Matt Christianson and Alex Buysse added to that with honorable mentions. On the girls’ side, Jessica Blanchard, Hannah Peterson and Kami Love - all of Marshall - were named to the first team. Sarah Vogl was named honorable mention.
Those three Tigers’ girls on the first team made up half of the team with members of the Jackson County Central squad accounting for the remainder. Alison Benson, Abby Brinkman and Abby Benson from the Huskies all received All-Conference honors. Lexie Hoffman, also of JCC, was chosen honorable mention.
Windom Area added a pair of honorable mentions among the girls’ postseason awards with Redwood Valley notching one. Kelsey Hansfeld and Maitland Vollan of the Eagles were named honorable mention with Redwood Valley’s Kenzie Mace rounding out the squad.
Worthington’s Will Mulder, who earned his first career trip to the Class AA state tournament in 2014, picked up his first All-Southwest Conference nod as a junior. Along with the aforementioned trio of Tiger golfers, he was joined by Adam Hengel and Mitch Fischer of Redwood Valley.
Trojans sophomore Tyler Van Hove added to his team’s postseason recognition with an honorable mention.Windom Area and JCC added one player each on the honorable mention squad. Joe Brinkman from the Huskies and Eagle Ryan Clark were both among the honorees.
