FAIRMONT -- Two Worthington Trojan boys and one Trojan girl earned all-conference honors Monday in the Big South Conference tournament at Fairmont’s Rose Lake Golf Course.
Nick Weg and Lucas Boever made the select cut, as did Maggie Putnam.
All-conference individual and team honors this year were determined by combining select regular season scores with the conference tourney. Putnam’s 95 score on Monday was good enough, combined with previous scores, to earn the junior elite status. A teammate, eighth-grader Syria Freimuth, was seventh overall on Monday with a score of 89, but was not all-conference.
On the boys’ side, Weg carded an 83 on Monday, and Boever had an 84. Both are seniors.
Anna Huisman of Luverne, Paige Pigman of Windom Area and Emma Budden of Pipestone Area also made all-conference.
Bergen Self of Fairmont secured the overall girls medalist title.
Fairmont was the regular season Eastern division winner and Marshall was tops in the West heading into Monday’s girls competition. On Monday, Marshall and Waseca tied with a 356 score, giving Marshall the overall team title.
Fairmont was third on Monday with 369 strokes, followed by St. Peter 383, New Ulm 387, Worthington 394, Luverne and Pipestone Area 396, Windom Area 412, Blue Earth Area 413, Jackson County Central 429 and Redwood Valley 479.
Other Worthington scores: Kendall Nixon 103 and Bailey Weg 107.
Braden Gudahl of Blue Earth Area and Carter Doose of St. Peter were the top boy golfers on Monday, each with a 72. Marshall’s Mason Plante and Spencer Ehlers both carded 76. Manning Lane of BEA and Jack Brinkman of Jackson County Central had 77. Another JCC linkster, Alec Kocak, struck a 78.
Preston Thavixay had a 94 and Logan Powers a 99 for Worthington.
The Trojans were not sharp as a team in Monday’s Big South tourney, finishing ninth. Blue Earth Area was first with 315 strokes, followed by St. Peter with 318, Marshall 320, Jackson County Central 323, Fairmont 350, Waseca 354, New Ulm 355, Redwood Valley 356, Worthington 360, Pipestone Area 368, Luverne 374 and Windom Area 384.
