LAKEFIELD - Westbrook-Walnut Grove opened the season Monday with a sweep over Heron Lake-Okabena on the Wildcats’ home course.
The Charger boys came through with a convincing, 199-252 victory while the girls narrowly edged their counterparts 220-222. W-WG’s Abby Herding took home girls medalist honors with a top individual score of 40 with Chargers sophomore Kyle Kuehl shot a 46 to claim the best individual score on the boys’ side.
Kuehl was followed closely by teammate Anthony Ross, who finished with a 48. AJ Quade carded a 52 to help the W-WG cause with both Brandon Pacholl and Jack Jorgenson coming in at 53.
The HL-O boys were led by Wyatt Schumacher’s 57. Matthew Bartosh, Ethan Koep and Ben Sheldahl came in one stroke apart at 64, 65 and 66, respectively, to factor into the team score.
Herding’s 40 was the best on the girls side by 12 strokes. Brittany Erickson was her closest teammate at 57 with Gabby Grams (61) and Stacy Hanson (62) rounding out the score.
Sarah Madsen shot a 52 to pace the Wildcats. Lexy Ruesch and Haley Ruesch weren’t far off of her pace at 55 and 57 while Brooke Freking finished with a 9-hole total of 58.
JCC girls 188, Spirit Lake 220
SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - The Jackson County Central girls showed they will once again be a force to be reckoned with Monday in their season opener.
The Huskies came in with four scores of 50 or lower to dispatch of host Spirit Lake 188-220.
Abby Brinkman led the way as the day’s medalist with a score of 40. Abby Benson and Emmalie Benson also kept under the half-century mark at 45 and 48, respectively. Molly Brinkman rounded out their score with a 50.
