Prep hockey: Balanced Fairmont shuts out Worthington girls; Luverne sweeps Windom Area

FAIRMONT -Nine different Fairmont players scored goals in a 12-0 shutout victory against Worthington.
Brooke Lemon scored twice, as did Alyssa Fetters and Tieryn Arens. Single goals were scored by Cori Emler, Myah Lytle, Taylor Nuss, Courtney Williams, Lauren Carlson and Ronja Schjerve.
Fairmont out-shot 68-5. FHS was 3-for-6 in power play chances and Worthington was 0-for-4.
Sadie Sandersfeld was in goal for Fairmont. Worthington’s Bailey Kruse stopped 29 Cardinals shots and Kaylee Bents stopped 15.

Luverne 6, Windom Area 0
LUVERNE - Mariah Aukes tallied a hat trick while Makayla Sterrett and Carlie Serie both notched four points Tuesday, helping Luverne to a 6-0 Big South Conference win over Windom Area.
Serie - with assists coming from Sterrett and Madisyn Dingmann (three points) - gave the Cards a 1-0 lead at the end of the first. Aukes picked up her first two goals in the second before a rare goal got things going in third. Luverne goalie Emilie Bartels put it in the net on the other side of the ice after getting help from Sterrett and Serie. Aukes and Sterrett added late scores and the Cardinals won 6-0.
Eagles goalie Emily Steen saved 46 of the 52 shots she faced. Bartels went 8-for-8 on save opportunities.

Luverne 12, Windom Area 0
LUVERNE - Jaxon Nelson scored three goals and had two assists and Chaz Smedsrud had two goals and two assists as the Luverne Cardinals blitzed Windom Area.
The Cardinals led 3-0 after the first period and outscored the Eagles 8-0 in the second.
Nick Behrends added two goals for LHS.
Luverne head coach Kullen Schroht said his team played with good balance. “Great team effort. The first time all year we put all three periods together. We got to see our depth,” he explained.
