LUVERNE - Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian didn’t lose a single player from its 2014 Class A third-place squad. That showed Monday in its season opener.
The Flying Dutchmen put up a couple crooked numbers on their way to an 11-0 nonconference win over Luverne.
The game was scoreless until the top of the third when E/SWC broke loose with the bats. It plated six runs to go up 6-0. A four-spot in the fourth and one more in the fifth gave it the firepower needed to end the game via run-rule.
Tianna Top nearly fired a perfect game for the Flying Dutchmen. She was just one out away when Kaitlyn Roberts broke it up with a single. She settled for a two-hit shutout during which she struck out 10 and didn’t walk anyone. The senior also went 2-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate.
Breanna Nelson paced the E/SWC hitting attack, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Courtney Jouwstra, Savannah Tinklenberg, Tanner Gunnink and Kameron Kroh had two hits each.
Madi Oye took the loss for Luverne.
