JACKSON - Game one was a pitcher’s duel and game two was a blowout.
That was the story for Jackson County Central Thursday in its season opening doubleheader against Redwood Valley. The Huskies walked away with wins of 3-0 and 23-3.
In the opener, Kelsey Kannenberg twirled a one-hit shutout during which she struck out 12 batters to bes a strong showing by Cardinals pitcher Nicole Bunting. Kannenberg also had two of the Huskies’ six hits - one of which was a triple - along with an RBI and a run scored.
Ally Ringeisen went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for JCC with Bailey Berkner and Eylse Johnson adding a hit each. Bunting allowed just two earned runs on six hits and walked 10 for the Cards.
The Huskies’ offense exploded for 10 runs in the first two innings of the nightcap, scoring four in the first and six in the second. In all they plated 23 runs and cracked 21 hits.
Sydney Nyborg had a monster game, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, five RBIs and five runs scored. Berkner was also 4-for-5 with a two-bagger, two batted in and five runs scored. Jacey Edlin went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.
Blaney Johnson earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and striking out seven over five innings of work.

ADRIAN - Hope Veldkamp went 4-for-5, Jenny Nelson 3-for-4 and Haley Tinklenberg 2-for-3 as Edgerton/Southwest Christian blistered host Adrian.
Liz Buckridge was the winning pitcher. She gave up 11 hits, walked one and struck out six.
Devin Dreesen took the loss.
Olivia Weidert, Mady Neuenberg, Brooke Grussing and Hailee Nolte all had two hits for Adrian. Neuenberg scored twice and drove in two runs and had a double.
Adrian trailed just 7-6 heading into the top of the sixth inning.
