EDGERTON - In a battle between two of the area’s top pitchers Tuesday, Mountain Lake Area’s Signey Stoesz out-dueled Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian’s Liz Buckridge in a 1-0 result.
Both pitchers hurled complete seven-inning games. Stoesz allowed two hits, walked two and struck out 12. Buckridge allowed two hits, walked two and struck out 11.
Mountain Lake Area’s only run, which was scored in the sixth inning, was unearned. E/SWC’s best opportunity came in the second inning when the Flying Dutchmen had runners on first and third base. But a baserunning mistake took them out of the inning.
Jenny Nelson had both Dutchmen hits, including a double.
The loss dropped E/SWC, a state tournament team last year, to 2-3 on the year.
“Our hitters are young and we’re pressing,” head coach Andrew Fleischman said. “But we’re gonna be fine.”
