WORTHINGTON -- Displaying more strong pitching and impressive hitting led by Sophie Wietzema and Payton Sauerbrei, the Worthington Trojans bested Waseca 12-2 and 7-2 in high school softball action Saturday at Centennial Fields in Worthington.
Sydney Ponto earned the pitching win in the first game, going five full innings and allowing just one earned run. She gave up three hits, walked nobody and struck out five.
Sauerbrei went 4-for-4 in the game with four runs scored and three stolen bases. Hailey Cauwels was 3-for-4 with three runs and two stolen bases. Haley Grimmius was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. And Brittin Fauskee was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
In the second game, Sauerbrei was 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Wietzema was 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. She belted two doubles and a home run.
Grimmius was the winning pitcher. She gave up just four hits, walked no one and struck out seven.

On Friday, Worthington swept a doubleheader against Blue Earth Area on scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
The Trojans are 7-3 on the season.
"Our pitchers have just been outstanding the last little while," said Worthington head coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka. "But I also think we're hitting the ball really well."
