The Luverne Cardinals won 5-2 over River Valley Tuesday in a tennis match.
Kaitlin Wohnoutka defeated Kallie Smith 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, while Becky Roiger of RV beat Emily Robinson 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.
"Tough matches all around today," LHS coach Greg Antoine said. "Emily Robinson was down a set and behind in the second and fought her way back to play a third set."
Paige Adams of Luverne won her No. 3 singles match against Lauren Laffen 5-7, 6-0, 7-5, while Kynzie Smedsrud beat Natalie Stevens 6-3, 7-5 in No. 4 singles.
"Paige and Kynzie played singles today to gain some experience for next year," Antoine said. "They both ran into some nice tennis players. Their experience is what carried them both to wins. You could see some doubles plays sneak into both of their singles matches. "

In No. 1 doubles, Luverne's Katie Eeten and Emilee Johnson defeated Emily Johnson and Kalyn Haas 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
"Katie and Emilee got in some doubles experience before section play," Antoine said. "They were hot and cold during their match but kept on fighting and and won in three sets."
Marlayna Evers and Erika Ries of RV took down Brianna Erickson and Danielle Kneip 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-1) in No. 2 doubles.
"Brianna and Danielle were as close as you can get in both sets but just couldn't find points in the tiebreakers at the right time," Antoine said.
In No. 3 doubles, Mckenzie Wenninger and Tatiana Gust took down Alex Chaney and Katelyn Johnson 6-4, 6-2.
"Mckenzie and Tatiana really put two good sets together and solidified their hold on third doubles going into the section tournament," Antoine said.
Luverne (11-4) hosts Fairmont Thursday in their last match of the year.
