WINDOM - As far as Windom Area volleyball coach Ron Wendorff is concerned, it’s all even with the Eagles and Martin County West.
Windom Area defeated a fine Martin County West team two games to none earlier this season at the Jackson County Central Tournament. Martin County West gained a measure of revenge Monday night, beating the Eagles 3-1.
“So now we’ve both beaten each other three games,” Wendorff said. “It’s funny how volleyball can be sometimes.”
West’s victory Monday on Windom’s home floor dropped the Eagles to 10-5 on the season. It solidified MCW as a threat to the Eagles - and to others - in the upcoming Section 2A tournament. Game scores were 25-20, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-16.
“They certainly played the game a lot better than we did,” Wendorff conceded. “They blocked us a lot better than we did them. That’s something that we’ll have to get figured out. They just covered the floor better.”
Kate Thiesse led the Mavericks Monday with her spiking and blocking. Teammate Kennedy Janssen had a good night setting.
For Windom Area, Jasmine Carlson was 16-for-16 serving with three aces, Porsha Porath had 10 kills and Rachel Sorensen nine kills. Sorensen also had three solo blocks and Carlson had 13 digs.
JCC 3, Fairmont 0
JACKSON -Making short work of non-conference opponent Fairmont, the Jackson County Central Huskies rolled to a 3-0 victory in high school volleyball action Monday.
JCC won on scores of 25-11, 25-5 and 25-21.
Kaylee Burmeister, a junior outside hitter, drilled 18 spike kills to pace the Huskies offense. Teammate Abby Benson added 10 kills while Sydney Eddy and Kenna Bannister added nine apiece.
Rachel Johnson had 28 set assists and Kathryn Nasby had 20 digs.
Johnson was 15-for-16 serving while Burmeister was 11-for-13 and Shelby Benson 9-for9. Burmeister and Abby Benson had two blocks each.
H-BC 3, Edgerton 1
EDGERTON - Kelli Esselink put 17 of 19 serves in play for 10 aces and had three kills to help the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots past host Edgerton.
The Pats advanced to 2-7 on the season with their 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-14 victory. Edgerton fell to 1-9-1.
Taylor Wingert aided the winners with a 12-for-12 serving effort and five kills, with two blocks. Marissa Kracht had six ace serves and 20 set assists.
Jessica Sandbulte and Tory Bork contributed 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
For Edgerton, Tanner Gunnink had 11 kills and Jessica Jasper had seven. Jordyn Smit had 17 set assists and put 15 of 16 serves in play with an ace. Kaitlin VanRuler added eight digs and Mia Wassink five blocks.
