OKABENA - Two tight games, then one that wasn’t so tight, and host Southwestern United defeated Worthington 25-21, 25-21 and 25-14 in a high school volleyball match Tuesday night.
The difference, said SWU head coach Christine Malm, was that her Wildcats did too much tipping in the first two games. “In the third game they just started swinging,” she said.
Malm praised the offensive and defensive performances of sophomore Andrea Hinkeldey and junior Courtney Place for helping Southwestern United improve its record to 1-1.
Worthington is 2-2.
Place had 19 kills and seven blocks while Hinkeldey added nine kills and nine blocks. Hailey Schumacher had 36 set assists and was 11-for-12 at the service line. Rachel Mathias was 23-for-24 serving.
Autumn Hinkeldey and Andrea Hinkeldey had 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
For Worthington, Paige Gravenhof was credited with three ace serves and eight points, and teammate Abbie Landgaard contributed two aces for two points. Paige Kinley had four points on serve.
Brooke Henning had five kills, Becca Linder four, and Betsy Thompson and Allie Bruns three each for the Trojans. Gravenhof had 12 set assists and 10 digs. Kinley had eight digs and Landgaard seven.
H-LP at Okoboji
OKOBOJI, Iowa - Harris-Lake Park swept three matches at the Okoboji Tournament, beating Spirit Lake 2-1, Okoboji 2-0 and Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire 2-0.
Game scores for the Spirit Lake contest were 21-9, 14-21 and 15-5. The Wolves beat Okoboji 21-18, 21-10 and GTRA 21-19, 21-5.
Noreen Morrow led H-LP with 28 kills for the three matches. Teammate Miranda Bruggeman had eight ace serves and 22 digs. And Macy Gunderson helped out with 45 set assists.
JCC 3, St. James 0
JACKSON - Host Jackson County Central improved to 2-0 on the season by taking care of St. James in three games, 25-10. 25-9 and 25-13.
Rachel Johnson led the way with 19-for-19 serving and 12 set assists. Shelby Benson was 11-for-12 serving with nine set assists. And Kaylee Burmeister was 11-for-13 serving with six aces. She also had two blocks, nine kills and eight digs.
Emily Bottem had nine set assists for St. James. Liz Reckow was 8-for-8 serving and had four digs. And Saint teammate Julia Beckius had seven kills.

Luverne 3, Adrian 2
LUVERNE - After losing the first set 17-25, the Luverne Cardinals won four straight sets on scores of 25-9, 25-18, 21-25 and 15-7 to beat the Dragons 3-2.
Junior Lexi Rust led the Cardinals with 12 kills in the contest, closely followed by Amanda Barnhart, who finished with 11.
Erica DeBoer totaled 22 digs in the contest, followed by Rust and Ellen Dahl, who had 18 and 16, respectively.
Ashley Olson finished 61-65 with 22 set assists. Olson also tallied three aces and was 17-18 serving. Dahl totaled four aces, and was 22-23 from behind the service line.
The Cardinals play the Marshall Tigers Thursday evening in Marshall.
SW Christian 3, Pipestone Area 0
EDGERTON - Southwest Chrisitan swept Pipestone Area 3-0 in three close matches in Edgerton.
Southwest Chrisitan was led by Ann Pater, who finished the night 12-12 serving, with one ace. She also had three ace blocks on the night and led the team with 10 digs.
With close sets like 25-18, 25-21 and 25-18, solid defense and scoring every possible point is crucial. Tianna Top and Kassydi Vreeman finished with five kills apiece in the contest, while Hope Veldkamp totaled 9 kills, and Sydney Esselink tallied 19 set assists on the night.
On the Arrow side of the court, Brittny Evans finished the match with eight digs. Kelly Nettick had 19 set assists. Taylor Kruisselbrink and Tarryn Woelber each had seven kills on the evening.
Southwest Chrisitan (1-2) plays Adrian at home Thursday night.
Windom 3, Red Rock Central 1
LAMBERTON -Kelsey Hanefeld was 15-16 serving, and totaled five aces as she led the Windom Eagles to a 3-1 win over the Red Rock Central Falcons.
Scores were 25-22, 12-25, 21-25 and 22-25.
Hanefeld also finished the game with 15 kills and eight digs.
Miki Bolin was 21 of 23 serving for the Eagles, and she also had three aces and 36 set assists.
Jasmine Carlson led the Eagles with 20 digs, and Rachel Sorenson led with 11 kills. Alyssa Fast and Porsha Porath each had eight kills.
For the Falcons, Mikaela Smith was 23-for-23 from behind the service line. She also finished with 28 set assists and 13 digs in the contest.
Brooke Rasmussen was 19-20 from behind the line, with two aces. She also led the team with 19 digs.
Cassy Erickson had 11 kills on the night, and Olivia Birner had eight. Melanie Kedl had four block assists on the night, while Rachel Kedl finished with three.
RRC (2-1) plays against Hills-Beaver Creek on its home court Thursday.
Mountain Lake 3, Truman 0
MOUNTAIN LAKE - Mountain Lake swept Truman 25-19, 26-24 and 25-21 Tuesday.
Leading the Wolverines to their sweep was Rachel Dukes, Maggie Wahdan, Signey Steoesz and Milayla Falk.
Dukes finished the game with 15 set assists. Wahdan totaled 9 kills in the contest, followed by Signey Steosz, who totaled five kils and 10 digs.
Falk was 17 of 18 serving, with one ace, and a total of 13 points.
Mountain Lake plays Sleepy Eye Saint Mary’s Thursday night.
