Prep volleyball: Tracy-Milroy-Balaton takes first, Windom Area third at Class A Showcase

BURNSVILLE - Tracy-Milroy-Balaton finished the weekend as tournament champion at the Class A Minnesota Showcase while Windom Area took third.
The Panthers went 6-0, sweeping their way through some of the best Class A teams the state has to offer. They opened against Wabasha-Kellogg and took a 25-15, 25-18 victory and followed that with a 25-23, 25-16 triumph over Sebeka. They rounded out pool play with a 25-19, 25-20 win over Kittson County Central.
TMB opened play in the gold bracket against the Eagles and managed a 25-20, 25-12 win. That put them in the semifinals, where they took down Wabasso 25-20, 25-14. The Panthers faced off against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in the title match. Once again, they won in two, 25-20, 25-22.
Gabbie Gervais had a perfect weekend serving, going 48-for-48 with 10 aces, 14 kills, 132 set assists, four ace blocks and 31 digs. Sydney Lanoue dropped in 13 ace serves while leading the team in kills with 49 and finishing with 34 digs. Along with the two above, Sidney Karbo received all-tournament honors, finishing with 26 kills, and nine digs. Kendra Ludeman slammed 33 kills while Kaylee Kirk led the way in digs with 66 and Sara Stoneberg had 39.
Windom Area opened its weekend against Stephen-Argyle and won by virtue of the point tiebreaker when the two teams split, 25-19, 23-25. The Eagles followed that with a strong win over Verndale, 25-20, 25-17, before losing a tiebreaker 21-25, 25-23, to Mayer Lutheran.
After the loss against TMB to get going in the gold bracket, the Eagles recovered with a 25-15, 21-25, 16-14 triumph over Wabasso. They found themselves in the third-place match, where they knocked off Wabasha-Kellogg 25-17, 25-17.
Porsha Porath and Madison Maras were named to the all-tournament team for Windom Area. Maras went 49-of-53 serving with nine aces, had 51 digs, 34 kills and six solo blocks while Porath smashed 44 kills and had eight solo blocks. Lauren Huset was good on 44-of-45 serves while putting up 76 set assists. Becca Hacker dropped in eight service aces, had a team-best 16 solo blocks and added 12 kills. Morgan Hockel finished with 29 kills while Sydnee Broberg put up 49 digs.
Jackson County Central finished the weekend with a 2-4 record to take 12th place in the Class AA portion of the tournament.
The Huskies beat fourth-ranked Kasson-Mantorville 25-22, 28-26 and Wadena-Deer Creek 25-23, 25-18 in pool play. They finished 2-2 before heading into the brackets, however, with losses to No. 3 St. Croix Lutheran (25-20, 25-16) and Southwest Christian (25-20, 25-22).
That put JCC in the bronze bracket where it opened against Roseau and lost 25-14, 25-22. A pair of 27-25 losses to No. 12 Kenyon-Wanamingo gave the Huskies 12th place overall.
