The first day of Minnesota state high school golf competition got under way on Tuesday, with Class A teeing off at Pebble Creek and Class AA at Ridges at Sand Creek.
In the class A boys tournament, Sawyer Drent of Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove shot an 83, which placed him 21st overall. Brock Henning of Adrian/Ellsworth was 43rd with a round of 89.
Fertile-Beltrami led in the team standings with 323 strokes, followed by Marshall School with 333, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa with 339, Lakeview 346, Park Christian 355, New Life Academy 360, United South Central 362 and Rushford-Peterson 391.
In the team girls standings, Legacy Christian and Lac qui Parle Valley led with 354 strokes each, followed by Park Christian 368, Fillmore Central 393, North Woods 395, Fertile-Beltrami 410, Sleepy Eye 446 and Section 3 champion Murray County Central 450.
Tess Van Maanen of Hills-Beaver Creek led the southwest Minnesota golfers with a 96, 28th overall. Ellyson Bang of HLLF/WWG was 31st with 98, Brielle Vis of Southwest Christian/Edgerton was 45th with 103, Ciera Tutt of MCC was 48th with 104, Ellie Meyer of MCC was 53rd with 105, Ava Johnson of MCC was 78th with 120, Rachael Huso of MCC was 80th with 121, Symone Harms of MCC was 82nd with 125 and Lizzie Daniels of MCC was 84th with 134.
In the Class AA boys tourney, Luverne's Henry Hartquist was tied for 8th place with a 77, six shots off the leaders. Braxton Thompson of Pipestone Area was 83rd with 97.
Both tournaments conclude today (Wednesday).
