BUFFALO LAKE — Lilly Mahlberg shot an 88 Tuesday to lead the Worthington High School girl golfers on the first day of the Section 3AA tournament at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake.
Mahlberg shot a first-nine score of 50 and followed that up with a 38 for the second nine. Head girls golf coach Brooke Hermsen said Mahlberg hit more fairways and made more putts to get her score lower in the second round.
Worthington teammates Madison Beckmann and Mia Nixon also did well enough on Tuesday to advance to today's (Wednesday) second day of competition with a chance to qualify for state.
Beckmann and Nixon both shot 104 on the first day Tuesday.
Trojans Tarren Spartz shot a 106, Kendall Nixon had a 108 and Ellie Weg shot a 115.
Julian Brown of Redwood Valley led the girls' field on Tuesday, with a 76.
The second day of the tournament is also at Oakdale Golf Club. One Trojan boy advanced to the second day: Tyler Jaycox.
