Tuesday sports roundup: Powers still hot, Trojans beat A/E in golf

ADRIAN — Worthington's Logan Powers continued his hot spring on the links Tuesday, earning another medalist's score as the Trojans swept Adrian/Ellsworth in high school golf at the Adrian Country Club.
Powers, who shared medalist honors on Monday at a Big South Conference meet in Windom, carded a 38 on Tuesday.
"Excellent ball striking and a lot of confidence," head coach Paul Barduson described Power's play.


Worthington won both the boys and girls team titles, with the girls out-performing the Dragons by eight strokes and the boys winning 167-179.
Powers was joined by teammates Andrew Mulder (42), Tyler Jaycox (43) and Spenser Nickel (44) in the scoring. For Adrian/Ellsworth it was Brock Henning with 40, Logan Nogosek with 45, Landyn Loosbrock 46 and Preston Vortherms 48.
Josi Altman of Adrian/Ellsworth was girls medalist with a 45. Dragons Taya Elias had 47, Madeline Wagner 49 and Olivia Lehnhoff 65.
For Worthington, Kendall Nixon carded 48. Lilly Mahlberg, Tarren Spartz and Madison Beckmann were all close behind with 49s.
RRC, Windom, MLA/C at Sanborn
SANBORN — Ada Lund shot a 50 and her Windom Area teammate Miranda Cory shot a 54 in a three-team meet.
Carlee Sell had 53 for Red Rock Central. Olivia Christians had 55 for Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey.
SLAYTON — Sawyer Drent carded a 43 and Neil Kuehl chimed in with a 46 to help Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove defeat Murray County Central in boys golf action, 188-234. Hudson Schryvers led MCC with a 55.
In girls' play, MCC beat HL-O-F/W-WG 225-229. Ellyson Bang had a 46 for HL-O-F/W-WG and Ciera Tutt had a 48 for MCC.
A/E 5, HL-O/F 3
HERON LAKE — Andy Rahe hurled three innings and was the winning pitcher, and Ky Ruppert pitched four and got the save as Adrian/Ellsworth defeated Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 5-3 in high school baseball.
Quentin Wolf went 2-for-3 at the plate for A/E. Payton Leopold had two hits for HL-O/F.
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove pounded out 13 hits in a 13-6 win over Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey. Cole VanDeWiele, Isaac Simonson, Dan Kleven and Hudson Jenniges all had two hits apiece for the winners.
A/E 12, HL-O/F 6
ELLSWORTH — Kaysie Lenz went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and Karly Kruse was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs as Adrian/Ellsworth topped Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 12-6 in softball.
Luverne 7, JCC 6
Luverne 15, JCC 6
LUVERNE — Billi Connell homered in both games as Luverne swept Big South Conference rival Jackson County Central in a doubleheader.
Ella Reisdorfer tripled in the first game for LHS. Gracie Nath was the winning pitcher in both games.
