LUVERNE -- The Worthington Trojans’ strength in middle distance running was evident Monday in a six-team track and field meet in Luverne. The Trojans’ Mason Bobb, Filmon Wolday, Fanuel Wolday and Mikele Walu combined for a first-place 8:50.00 time in the 4x800-meter relay, beating second-place Jackson County Central (9:48.42) by nearly a minute.
Southwest Christian/Edgerton and Worthington won team championships. The SWC/E boys totaled 97 points, followed by Luverne with 95, JCC 72, Worthington 47, Hills-Beaver Creek 40 and Adrian/Ellsworth 8. Worthington scored a first-place 102.5 points on the girls’ side, followed by SWC/E 83, JCC 56.5, Luverne and Adrian/Ellsworth 53 and Hills-Beaver Creek 25.

The WHS boys’ Marenono Opiew won three individual events -- the 110-meter hurdles (17.38), the 300-meter hurdles (45.44) and the high jump (5-10). Micah Schaap of SWC/E also won three individual events -- the 400-meter hurdles (51.52), the long jump (21-6) and the triple jump (43-11.5).
The Trojan girls received two wins by Brooklyn Scheitel-Taylor in the 200 meters (27.17) and the triple jump (32-8.25) while also running a leg in the first-place 4x100-meter relay (34.37).
