SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Worthington Trojans girls basketball squad took a road trip into Iowa on Saturday and lost by two points to Sioux City West.
The score was 57-55.
Worthington trailed by four points late in the game, but used two steals to tie the contest. After an in-bounds play, the Trojans appeared to get a score with Tarren Spartz that could have turned into a 3-point play. The shot went in, and Spartz was fouled.
The shot, and the ensuing free throw would have given WHS a three-point lead. But the referees whistled her for a charge.
With 2.3 seconds remaining, Sioux City West converted two free throws for its 56th and 57th point.
Olivia Hayenga finished with 13 points for Worthington. Spartz and Dasia Potter both had 12 points. Spartz also had seven rebounds.
