Worthington wins boys, ties girls home track meet Thursday

WORTHINGTON -- Elliot Espenson won three events to help her Windom Area track and field team to tie Worthington for first place in the team standings of a four-team meet in Worthington on Thursday.

Espenson captured the 100-meter hurdles, the shot put and the discus.

Worthington got a pair of individual event wins from Bailey Newman (100 meters, long jump) and Brooklyn Scheitel-Taylor (200 meters, triple jump).

Double winners for the Worthington boys squad were Filmon Wolday in the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run, and Marenono Opiew in the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

Cole Boltjes of Adrian/Ellsworth won two events, the shot put and the discus. And Windom Area’s Bryan Macario Rios won the 400 and 800-meter races.

Team standings in the boys meet had Worthington with 95 points, Windom Area 47, Adrian/Ellsworth 32 and Westbrook-Walnut Grove 10. Following Worthington and Windom Area in the girls standings were Adrian/Ellsworth with 35 and W-WG with five.
