S-O loses heartbreaker to Sioux Center, 10-7

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- With a 2-yard run from Craig Hertz in the first quarter, Sibley-Ocheyedan had an early 7-0 lead Friday night.

However, Sioux Center scored 10 unanswered points in a 10-7 victory in a Class 2A football game.

Greg Hiemstra completed nine passes for 146 yards and ran for 31 yards on the ground.

Cody Dirks led the Generals (2-4, 2-2) with 40 yards rushing, while Hertz finished the game with 27 yards.

Marshall Doeden had four receptions for 65 yards, while Hertz caught three balls for 78 yards.

Defensively, Hertz had 10 total tackles, while Jay Kruger had seven. Craig Jacobsma and Justin Truckenmiller each had an interception for S-O.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- Brandon Koel had 14 carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns to highlight Central Lyon/George-Little Rock's dominating rushing performance in a victory against Western Christian Friday night.

The Lions rushed for 423 total yards -- a season-high -- on 52 carries.

Koel recorded touchdown runs of 71 and 2 yards.

Jordan Gacke had 112 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, and he was 2-for-3 passing for 50 yards.

Gacke also assisted on six tackles and had five solo tackles for the Lions (6-0, 4-0), who will travel to face Sibley-Ocheyedan on Friday.

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa --Tony Rodger recorded one of three interceptions for Sheldon, making the senior safety the program's all-time leader in that category.

Rodger, a two-year starter, has 15 career interceptions.

Evan Ascherl had 13 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown to lead Sheldon, which recovered from a sluggish start to earn the victory.

The Orabs' first drive ended with an interception, and their second possession ended with a fumble.

Sheldon regrouped, however, and scored a second-quarter touchdown before putting up 15 points in the third quarter.

Nic Meendering was 7-of-11 passing for 165 yards, including a 48-yard scoring strike to Taylor Zeutenhorst.

Zeutenhorst also added a 26-yard touchdown run for the Orabs, who totaled 392 yards of offense and allowed just 196.

Sheldon (3-3, 2-2) will travel to face Unity Christian on Friday.

Kyle Jacobsen completed 8 of 20 passes for 35 yards, and Mychal Sheridan had 15 yards on nine carries to lead the Wolves, who allowed 357 total yards.

HL-P will host No. 2-ranked North Sentral-Kossuth on Friday.
