Saturday roundup: Luverne books its ticket to Section 3A final in girls hockey

The Worthington Trojans boys hockey team falls 9-1 in a non-conference match to La Crescent-Hokah.

Luverne 8, Windom Area 1

LUVERNE – Izzy Steensma netted three goals for Luverne in a section playoff victory over Windom Area.

Kamryn Van Batavia scored two goals for the Cardinals. Greta McClure, Anika Boll, and Payton Behr scored a goal for LHS.


Madyson Fredin scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

The Eagles defeated Marshall 1-0 in overtime to advance to the semifinals.

The 2022-23 Red Rock Conference boys basketball season came to a close last Saturday as Southwest Minnesota Christian lost 98-57 to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the Section 3A semifinals
The Cardinals' season concludes with the consolation semifinal game at the boys hockey state tournament.

Luverne will play New Ulm in the Section 3A final Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

Boys Hockey

La Crescent-Hokah 9, Worthington 1

LA CRESCENT – Easton Newman scored the lone Worthington Trojans’ goal in the third period in a non-conference 9-1 loss against La Crescent-Hokah. Newman scored on an assist from Logan Powers.


Scoring three goals for La Crescent-Hokah were Wyatt Farrell and Mitchell Reining. AJ Donovan, Jan Blaha, and Drew Vessy all netted a goal.

La Crescent-Hokah netted three goals in each period. Worthington was out shot 45-16.

Worthington plays Windom Area on Tuesday for a Big South Conference game.

Luverne 4, Minnesota River 0

LE SUEUR – Luverne improved its season record to 17-6-1 with a conference victory over Minnesota River.

The Cardinals play their final regular season game on Thursday against Windom Area.
