Section 2AAA baseball: Trojans lose opener to Mankato East

MANKATO -- The Worthington Trojans dropped their Section 2AAA baseball opener Saturday at Wolverton Field in Mankato, losing to Mankato East by a 10-0 score.

MANKATO -- The Worthington Trojans dropped their Section 2AAA baseball opener Saturday at Wolverton Field in Mankato, losing to Mankato East by a 10-0 score.

East used three pitchers to combine on a two-hitter in the five-inning game. It was the Cougars' third shutout of the season.

East is the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Worthington is No. 7.

In other first-round games Saturday, top-seeded New Ulm defeated Waseca 11-0, Marshall beat Hutchinson 7-3 and Mankato West edged Faribault 5-4.

Worthington will play its second game of the double-elimination section tournament Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Faribault beginning at 7 p.m.
