MILROY -- Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove baseball team put together a three-run rally to seal a 3-2 victory over Wabasso in the Section 3A semifinal on Saturday in Milroy.
Mitchell Willhite led off the top of the sixth with a single for the Falcons and Taylor Bunting followed that up with a single of his own. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, to put runners on second and third for Austin Irlbeck who singled in Willhite as Bunting advanced to third. Bunting then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2. Then, with two outs, Trevor Pederson drove in Irlbeck to give the Falcons the lead 3-2.
The winning pitcher, Bunting, struck out five of the last six batters to complete the victory. He racked up 11 strikeouts in the complete game, three hit victory, and was 3-for-3 with a double at the plate.
RRC/W-WG advances to the Section 3A final on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Milroy. It will play the winner of the loser’s bracket final game between Lac qui Parle Valley and Wabasso on Tuesday in Milroy.
