Section 3A track and field: State tournament berths attained in Pipestone

PIPESTONE -- Logan Stratton of Luverne captured the boys shot put and discus events, and Pipestone Area’s Tyl Woelber took the high jump and triple jump competitions in the Section 3A qualifying track and field meet Thursday in Pipestone.

Pipestone Area’s Michelle Neece won the girls long jump and 100-meter hurdles.

Montevideo won the boys team title with 83.5 points, followed by Redwood Valley (80.5), Luverne (73) and Pipestone Area (70) in the 25-team field. On the girls’ side, Luverne placed first with 105 points while Pipestone Area was second (77) and Southwest Christian (52) third. There were 25 girls teams.

The top two finishers in individual and relay events automatically qualify for the state meet.
