The Luverne High School girls basketball team, seeded No. 1 in the south section of the Section 3AA, had its way with Minnesota Valley Lutheran in the first round of the Section 3AA tournament on Saturday.
But the most interesting game might have been the one-point Fairmont victory over Jackson County Central as the third-seeded team from the south narrowly prevailed over the sixth seed.
Host Fairmont won 67-66. JCC led with about 14.6 seconds remaining while holding the ball. The Huskies wanted to get it to their best free throw shooter, Maci Farmer, but turned it over. Fairmont then missed on its opportunity. After a jump ball, thet Cardinals took possession and scored with 0.9 seconds remaining on the clock.
Neveah Rahm had the game-winner. And JCC’s upset bid was canceled.
Farmer finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Jackson County Central. Rylie Cother scored 20 points with nine rebounds and five assists. And Kylie Wenzel had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

In other Section 3AA games, St. James Area beat Windom Area 81-57 and Pipestone Area dumped Redwood Valley 58-35.
Action resumes on Tuesday. Game locations have yet to be determined.
