MARSHALL -- The Pipestone Area Arrows are going back to the Minnesota state Class AA softball tournament, thanks to a narrow victory over St. James Area in the finals of the Section 3AA tournament Thursday at Marshall.
Pipestone Area defeated St. James Area 2-1 to advance. St. James Area would have forced a second game on Thursday had they won, but the Saints came up just a little short.
The Arrows will open their participation in the state tourney next Thursday at Caswell Park in Mankato against an opponent yet to be decided.
The No. 1 seed in the southern half of the section tournament, Pipestone Area had little trouble advancing through the brackets to the championship game. The Arrows opened with a 10-0 win over Redwood Valley, then beat St. James Area 13-0, New London-Spicer 10-1 and Martin County West 4-0.
PA returns to state having won back-to-back consolation championships in 2016 and 2017.
