Section 3AA volleyball: Luverne, JCC to meet

LUVERNE -- Second-seeded Luverne made quick work of seventh-seeded St. James in the opening round of the Section 3AA volleyball tournament on Thursday.

LUVERNE -- Second-seeded Luverne made quick work of seventh-seeded St. James in the opening round of the Section 3AA volleyball tournament on Thursday.

The Cardinals won 25-19, 25-12 and 25-21.

LHS (19-4) will now host third-seeded Jackson County Central on Tuesday. Marshall, which swept New Ulm, and Pipestone Area, which swept Worthington, will face off in the other Section 3AA South semifinal.

Lexi Ferrell led Luverne with 14 kills, 19 digs, five solo blocks and was 13-for-13 serving with two aces. Greta Ahrendt added 10 kills, while Sierra Schmuck was 14-for-14 serving with two aces. She also had 10 set assists. Tacey Baustian led the Cardinals with 14 set assists.

JCC 3, RV 0 JACKSON -- It took some extra points in the third game, but the third-seeded Jackson County Central Huskies earned a sweep over sixth-seeded Redwood Valley.

Game scores were 25-12, 25-12 and 29-27.

Alaina Wolff had 15 kills to lead JCC. She was also 6-for-11 serving and added three digs.

Kendell Kapplinger added seven kills and two blocks, while Sadie Voss had six kills, six digs and was 8-for-9 serving with an ace.

Lauren Murphy was a perfect 18-for-18 serving. She had 34 set assists and four digs. Molly Brinkman led JCC with 13 digs and was 9-for-11 serving. Emily Paplow was 16 for 18 from the service line to go with two aces, while Tiara Menke had four kills, three blocks and was 10-for-11 serving with an ace.

Iowa H-LP 3, K-P 0 GEORGE, Iowa -- Harris-Lake Park swept its way into the Class 1A, Regional 1 finals with a victory over Kingsley-Pierson.

The Wolves (21-11) will face LeMars, Gehlen Catholic at 7 p.m. Tuesday in George.

H-LP wasted little time on Thursday with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 sweep.

Taylor Meyer had 17 kills, nine digs and two ace serves for the Wolves, while Blake Gunderson added 12 kills and two aces. Madison Brevik had 22 set assists and 14 digs.
