Section volleyball seeds, matchups are set


First-round matchups for the upcoming high school section volleyball tournaments have been established. Action begins on Monday in Section 2A and 3A, and in Section 3AA teams begin on Thursday, Oct. 24.

Worthington is the No. 8 seed in South Section 3AA and will open against top-seeded and state-ranked Marshall Oct. 24 in Marshall at 7 p.m. Other first-round matchups in the south of 3AA will include Luverne (fifth-seeded) at Pipestone Area (4), St. James Area (7) at Jackson County Central (2) and New Ulm (6) at Windom Area. New London-Spicer is the No. 1 seed from the north.

Mountain Lake Area is the No. 2 seed in South Section 2A and has a first-round bye.

In Section 3A, defending state champion Minneota is the top seed from the north and Adrian is the top seed from the south. Adrian, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2), Red Rock Central (3), Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (4), Westbrook-Walnut Grove (5) and Murray County Central (6) all await an Oct. 25 date for their first games. Play-in games on Monday have Ellsworth (9) at Hills-Beaver Creek (8) and Edgerton (10) at Southwest Christian (7).
