Legion wins, ties over weekend

SLEEPY EYE -- The Worthington Senior Legion baseball team defeated Wabasso 5-0 and tied Sleepy Eye 1-1 Saturday in the Sleepy Eye Round Robin Tournament.

Solid pitching from Nathan Van Orman and Daniel Pavelko lifted the locals past Wabasso. The two hurlers combined on a one-hitter, with Van Norman pitching three innings and Pavelko going four.

Tate Gaul went 3-for-4 with a double and Tommy Lais also doubled for Worthington, which collected seven hits in all.

In the game against Sleepy Eye, Gaul pitched four innings and Will Brandner one. The game ended after five innings due to weather and time constraints.

Reynaldo Paniagua, Pavelko, and Tommy and Kent Lais each had hits for Worthington.

Adrian beats Cubs, 11-4

ADRIAN -- The Adrian A’s amateur baseball team topped Worthington 11-4 Friday night, highlighted by a home run by Nathan Braksma in his first at bat of the year.

Worthington scored three third inning runs as Ryan Swanson homered.

But the Cubs offense couldn’t keep up with Adrian, which led 5-0 through the first two innings.

Jake Stamer, who hurled six innings in relief of former WHS graduate Tucker Sorenson, was the winning pitcher. Brayden Donkersloot took the loss.

Swanson went 4-for-5 for the Cubs.
