SPRINGFIELD -- After the Worthington 14-and-under softball team defeated Springfield 16-7 Wednesday night in the first game of the doubleheader, it dropped the second game, 8-5.
In the first game, Paige Kinley earned the victory in the circle. She allowed five runs while striking out four in four innings.
Carly Byrne threw the final inning, striking out three.
Miranda LeBrun was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Yadira Barragan, Rebecca Kazemba, Brianna Mullaney, Stephanie Romero, Becca Linder and Betsy Thompson each had a hit in the first game.
In the nightcap, Linder started and struck out two in two innings in the circle. Kinley threw the final four frames for Worthington (8-2).

Barragan, Kinley and Aleanna Heig each had a hit, while Mullaney had a double and drove in two runs on the night.
Worthington will travel to Fairmont for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
