Section softball: E/SWC, Pipestone Area roll on

Top-ranked teams Edgerton/Southwest Christian and Pipestone Area maintained their winning momentum Saturday in section girls fast-pitch softball.

The Flying Dutchmen, top-seeded in the Section 3A South, defeated Lac qui Parle Valley 11-4 and Wabasso 13-1 in five innings Saturday in Cottonwood to advance to the championship game.

Pipestone Area dominated New London-Spicer 10-1 and shut out Martin County West 4-0 Saturday in Marshall to head into the Section 3AA finals.

Edgerton/Southwest Christian will play the 3A title game Thursday at 4 p.m. in Cottonwood against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Lac Qui Parle Valley or Wabasso. The Dutchmen are undefeated in the tournament, so they lose in the 4 p.m. game, another game will have to be played to determine the Section 3A state entrant.

Pipestone Area will play its Section 3AA championship game at 5 p.m. in Marshall on Thursday against St. James Area, New London-Spicer or Martin County West. The Arrows are also undefeated and would have to lose twice to miss a state tournament berth.

The three other remaining teams in both sections will square off on Tuesday to determine E/SWC’s and Pipestone Area’s title opponents.
