WORTHINGTON -- The weather was not kind to Tuesday’s opening round of the high school softball tournament.

With strong winds, cold temperatures and rain, the Section 3A and 3AA tournaments were postponed by two days.

Both the Section 3A and 3AA tournaments will now begin on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Section 2AAA released the seedings on Tuesday. Worthington is the No. 5 seed and will face fourth-seeded Mankato East. That tournament also begins on Thursday with the first pitch slated for 5 p.m. and all games played at Caswell Park in North Mankato. Mankato West is the top seed, with Faribault the second and New Ulm third. The second round games will be played later that night, with the next round on Saturday.

The Trojans enter the game with a record of 12-7-1, and have been playing well as of late. WHS won four in a row, and was locked in a tie game with Windom Area when the weather prevented the game from being completed. The Trojans then split with a solid Luverne team to end the season.

In Section 3A, fourth-seed Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove plays fifth-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 4 p.m. Thursday in Edgerton, with the winner taking on top-seeded Edgerton/Southwest Christian later that day.

In Slayton, second-seeded Murray County Central plays Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at 3 p.m., followed by third-seeded Wabasso and sixth-seeded Adrian Area. The winners will face off at 6 p.m.

Pipestone Area is the top seed in Section 3AA, and hosts eighth-seeded Redwood Valley at 3 p.m. Thursday. Fourth-seeded Jackson County Central plays fifth-seeded Windom Area in Pipestone, with the winners of the two games to square off later in the day.

In Luverne, the second-seeded Cardinals host seventh-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 2 p.m. The winner will face the winner of third-seeded St. James Area and sixth-seeded Martin County West.

Both tournaments will continue on Saturday.
