EDGERTON -- In a much-anticipated, intense, well-played high school boys basketball game Monday night, the Southwest Minnesota Christian Eagles clipped the Worthington Trojans 85-77 in Edgerton.

The Eagles achieved remarkable balance. Dawson Rieck scored 16 points, Hunter Vander Haar had 15, and Micah Schaap and Carter Van Hulzen both had 14. Zach Prins and Jacob Raak scored 11 points apiece as Southwest advanced to 14-2 on the year.

It was a back-and-forth game, said Southwest Christian head coach Jamie Pap.

“It was just a battle. It was a very good basketball game,” he said.

Southwest led by 13 points with about five minutes remaining in the contest. Worthington got the margin within five points with about a minute to go, but the Eagles iced the victory with free throws.

“I don’t think we ever lost a lead. But it was a good ball game, that’s for sure,” said Pap.

Do-everything senior guard Terbuto Ochothow paced Worthington with 25 points, and Brock Bruns finished with 24. Jake Brandner contributed 13 and Meer Othow scored nine points.

Ochothow is always a difficult player to guard, but Pap said his Eagles tried to give the Trojans’ prolific scorer a little space so as to keep him from blowing by his defenders on the drive.

Southwest Christian out-rebounded Worthington 32-26 according to SWC statistics, and the Trojans had 17 turnovers to Southwest’s 15. The Eagles shot the ball very well, making 17 of 28 2-point shots and 10 of 17 from beyond the arc.

Worthington (7-9) was 8-for-22 from 3-point range.
