All-Comers meet is Monday

WORTHINGTON -- The All-Comers track meet in Worthington is Monday at Trojan Field.

Competitors and spectators for the annual event, sponsored by the Worthington Area YMCA and the Worthington Optimist Club, are to enter through the east gate.

The meet is for young people between the ages of 2-14. Registration begins at 5 p.m., with events starting at 5:45 p.m. Hot dogs will be served courtesy of the Optimist Club.

Events include the softball throw, long jump, 50-meter, 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter runs and a 4-by-100-meter relay.

Eligibility meeting at WHS

WORTHINGTON -- All Worthington students in grades 7-12 interested in participating in athletics through District 518 are required to attend an all-sports eligibility meeting on Monday, Aug. 9. The general meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Worthington High School gymnasium.

The Minnesota State High School League requires schools to collect all forms and fees before participants are allowed to practice and participate in events.

Fall sports participants will meet with their coaches to discuss team information after the general meeting.

Students in grades 9-11 must complete an ImPact Test (concussion) during the designated time for their sport. Volleyball, girls tennis and girls soccer tests are at 5:30p.m.; winter and spring sports are at 7 p.m.; football, boys soccer and cross country are at 7:30 p.m.

Football: Aug. 16, 8 a.m.-noon, high school field

Boys soccer: Aug. 16, 7-8 a.m., 5-7:30 p.m. at Prairie Elementary School

Girls soccer: Aug. 16, 9-10:30 a.m.;12:30-2:30 p.m., Prairie Elementary School

Volleyball: Aug. 16, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., high school gym

Cross country: Aug. 16, 7:30-9 a.m., high school lobby

Girls tennis: Aug. 16, 8 a.m.-noon, middle school tennis courts

Middle school

8th grade football: Aug. 30, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (equipment pick-up), middle school cafeteria

7th grade football: Aug. 31, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (equipment pick-up), middle school cafeteria

Boys soccer: Aug. 16, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Prairie Elementary School

Girls soccer: Aug. 16, 9-10:30 a.m., 12:30-2:30 p.m., Prairie Elementary School

Hunting handbook is available

The 2021 Minnesota Hunting and Trapping Regulations handbook has been released online, and sportsmen can read up on what’s new to prepare for this year’s deer hunting season. The handbook is now available on the DNR website and printed copies of the handbook will be delivered to hunting license vendors the first week of August.

Hunting licenses go on sale Sunday (Aug. 1) and are available at any DNR license agent, by telephone at 888-665-4236, or online. Archery deer season opens Saturday, Sept. 18, and firearms deer season opens Saturday, Nov. 6.
