Gronewold Memorial Race June 30 WORTHINGTON -- The Jerry “Mahoney” Gronewold Memorial Race will take place Saturday, June 30, at the Nobles County Speedway featuring USRA Stock Cars, B-Mods, Hobby, Sportsman and Tuners.
Born and raised in Worthington, Gronewold died Dec. 7, 2017 at the age of 69 after a lifetime of racing. The popular sportsman, known by most fans as the driver of No. 58, won regularly with hobby stock, stocks and B-Mod sprint cars. He built many cars with his own hands and gathered many track championships.
He was inducted into the Murray County Speedway Hall of Fame in 2011.
Swimmers to aid Rwandan effort WORTHINGTON -- Swimmers in the Worthington area are being called upon to take to the water on July 11 to help with this year’s All Day For Africa fundraising event -- an effort held locally each year to raise funds for a school in Rwanda.
A portion of the proceeds also to to the JC Learn to Swim program in Worthington that provides free swimming lessons to all second-graders in Nobles County.

The July 11 swim event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Worthington Area YMCA and will include kids and adults of all ages who are willing to swim laps for at least 30 minutes. Those participating will be asked to make a $25 donation, which will allow the volunteer to participate in all ADFA activities.
Swimmers get a free T-shirt and an evening meal at GreatLIFE Worthington on the 11th. Some of the activities include tennis, golf, swimming, a 5K race and talent show.
