MINNEAPOLIS -- Joey Vajgrt's state tennis run isn't over yet.

Luverne's Vajgrt rebounded from an opening-round loss on Thursday at the Class A individual tournament, beating Joel Ryan of East Grand Forks in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).

The Cardinals' freshman faces St. Peter's Mitch Elofson this morning for a consolation semifinal at the Read-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

Earlier on Thursday, Derek Lutz of Pine City defeated Vajgrt 6-1, 6-1 to send him to the consolation bracket.

Meanwhile, Luverne's doubles team of Michael Graff and Joel Wohnoutka were eliminated after two matches on Thursday.

St. Peter's Spencer Gault and Mike Huber defeated the Cardinal combo 6-2, 6-1 in the first round, then Lucas Busch and Matt Goldschmidt of Duluth-Marshall teamed up to beat Gault and Huber 6-1, 6-1.

The Cardinals also made the Class A team tournament, and lost its two matches to Virginia and Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday.
