SAINT PAUL -- Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove captured third place in the Minnesota state Class A team wrestling tournament Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul.
The Panthers defeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie 49-14 in the first round, lost to Kenyon-Wanimingo 40-20 in their second match, then beat Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 38-26 in the third-place match.
T-M-B/W-WG's Ayden Horner (113 pounds), Dereck Ellingson (132), Austin Axford (160), Trevor Eisfeld (195) and Travis Willhite (220) all recorded falls for the Panthers in the team's first match. Horner, Ellingson, Anthony Axford, Jace Paplow and Eisfeld won matches for the Panthers in the second match. In the third, Horner, Ellingson, Tyler Vandendriessche, Anthony Axford, Sawyer Schwartz, Austin Axford, Paplow, Eisfeld and Willhite earned victories.
Several T-M-B/W-WG wrestlers along with several other area wrestlers will compete in the state Class A individual tournament beginning Friday. Also competing is Worthington Trojans senior Jacob Neuberger in Class AA.
