Stingrays open season in Austin

AUSTIN -- Oliver Wolyniec had a great start to his swimming season.

Competing for the first time this season for the YMCA Stingrays, Wolyniec finished first in two individual events and one relay team at the Pumpkin Relays on Saturday.

Wolyniec finished first in the boys' 12 and under individual medley in one minutes, 24.93 seconds. He also won the 50 meter breast stroke race in 41.83. In the 50-meter freestyle, Wolyniec finished second in 32.83.

He was also on two different relays teams.

In the 200-meter medley, Gordy Moore, Dillon Pedersen, Tim Skog and Wolyniec finished first in 2:26.90.

In the 200-meter freestyle the same four teamed up to finished in 2:10.43, good enough for second place.

The Stingrays finished 1-2 in the boys' 12 and under 200-meter freestyle.

Finishing first in 2:49.12 was the team of Levi Blanchard, Evan Gerren, Cameron Jenson and Liam Gerren.

Claiming second in a time of 2:49.12 was Justin Paulzine, Alex Baustian, Porter Elsing and Eli Gaul.

The team of Arely Rodriguez, Tori Elsing, Tracy Prins and Sarah Janssen finished third in 2:43.46.

Porter Elsing, Liam Gerren, Kyle Janssen and Nathan Johnson teamed up to finish fourth in 3:45.97 in the boys' 10 and under 200-meter medley.

In the girls' 14 and under 200-meter medley, Tori Elsing, Prins, Sarah Janssen and Rebecca Christensen finished third in 3:02.76.

Individually, Moore finished first in the boys' 18 and under 100-meter breaststroke in 1:35.73. He also finished second in the 50 free in 30.70.

Sarah Janssen finished first in the girls' 14 and under 200 free in 2:39.78. She was third in the 100 free (1:12.08) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:45.59).

Competing in the boys' 12 and under category, Baustian finished first in the 50 back (47.37), fifth in the 100 free (1:40.78) and 10th in the 50 free (39.80).

Blanchard finished eighth in the 50 back in 1:06.28 in the boys' 12 and under division. He also finished 14th in the 50 free (52.02).

Christensen finished sixth individually in the girls' 14 and under 50 free in 44.30.

Porter Elsing, competing in the boys' 10 and under division, placed 11th in the 50 free.

Tori Elsing claimed an eighth place (50 breast, 50.90) and a 15th (50 free, 39.82) in the girls' 12 and under category.

Anwar Farra finished fifth in the boys' eight and under 50-meter freestyle in 1:07.65.

Individually, Gaul was third in the 50 fly (50.99) and ninth in the 50 free (38.67).

Evan Gerren had a second-place finish (boys' 12 and under 50 back), a third-place finish (100 free, 1:23.66) and a fourth-place finish (50 free, 34.33) in the boys' 12 and under division.

In the boys' 10 and under division, Liam Gerren finished eighth in the 100 free (1:38.50), 10th in the 50 free (42.81) and 11th in the 50 breast (1:03.49).

In the same division, Kyle Janssen was 10th in the 50 breast (1:03.02) and 12th in the 50 free (42.81).

Jenson (boys' 12 and under) was second in the 100 free (1:19.64), fourth in the 50 breast (48.40) and sixth in the 50 free (34.86).

Hailey McNab, competing in the girls' eight and under division, was third in both the 25 breast (32.98) and 50 free (56.05). She also finished fifth in the 25 back (26.43).

Paulzine was fourth in the boys' 12 and under 100 free (1:27.41), fifth in the 50 back (52.54) and seventh in the 50 free (36.80).

Pedersen was second in the 100 breast (1:30.03), sixth in the 50 free (31.88) and eighth in the 100 free (1:19.93) in the boys' 14 and under category.

Prins (girls' 14 and under) was fifth in both the 50 free (41.09) and 100 breast (2:08.98).

Rodriguez claimed seventh (56.04) in the girls' 10 and under back, eighth (44.44) in the 50 free and 10th in the 50 breast (1:05.95).

Skog was second in the 50 free (25.84) and third in the 100 free (1:03.13) in the boys' 14 and under division.

The Stingrays will continue their season this weekend at Spirit Lake, Iowa.
